Albert F. Crater

BRAIDWOOD, Ill. — Mr. Albert F. Crater, 90, of Braidwood, Ill., passed away Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee, Ill.

Born March 30, 1922, in Custer Park, Ill., to the late Frank and Erma (Russell) Crater. He is a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during World War II.

A member of the Braidwood American Legion Koca Post #39 and the First Presbyterian Church in Braidwood, he formerly served on the Braidwood City Council and was a former volunteer for the fire department.

Al was the superintendant for JM Corbett Construction in Chicago, retiring at the age of 62.

Surviving are his daughter, Diane Nelson of Manteno, Ill.,; a brother, Glen (Marie) Crater of Braidwood; a sister, Freida Bosek of Bothwell, Wash.; a sister-in-law, Shirley (Jack) McElroy of Braidwood; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Anna Marie (Ruzek) Crater, whom he married Nov. 8, 1941, in Joliet, Ill.; a daughter, Beverly K. Crater; and four sisters, Erma Carroll, Isabelle Stites, Nellie Reis, and Coleen Chochola.

Funeral services will be at the First Presbyterian Church, Braidwood, at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21, with the Rev. Dale Tolly officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery, Braceville.

Visitation is from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, at the R.W. Patterson Funeral Homes Ltd. & Crematory, Braidwood Chapel, 401 E. Main St., Braidwood.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his name to the First Presbyterian Church in Braidwood would be appreciated.
