Anthony J. Serena

SOUTH WILMINGTON, Ill. — Mr. Anthony J. "A.J." Serena, 28, of South Wilmington, Ill., passed away suddenly Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, in Goodfarm Township, Ill., due to injuries suffered in an automobile accident.

Born June 20, 1984 in Joliet, Ill., Anthony was the son of Anthony "Slabs" and Diane (Alderson) Serena  of South Wilmington. He was a graduate of Gardner-South Wilmington High School with the class of 2002.

Serena was a member of the Laborer’s Union, Local #75 and was employed at D Construction in Coal City.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Survivors include his wife, Amy (Sanderson) Serena; his children, Westin and Wyleigh; parents, Anthony “Slabs” and Diane (Alderson) Serena of South Wilmington; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Brad Hampson of Gardner; nephew, Cole Hampson; grandmother, Loretta “Dolly” Yenerich of South Wilmington; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his nephews, Ty and Ryan Hampson.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2012, at the R.W. Patterson Funeral Homes, Ltd., Braidwood Chapel. Rev. John Hornicak will officiate.

Interment will be at Braceville-Gardner Cemetery in Braceville, Ill.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in his name may be directed to his children.
