A South Wilmington man was killed late Wednesday in a traffic crash that remains under investigation.

Pronounced dead at the scene was 28-year-old Anthony J. Serena of South Wilmington.

The crash, according to a press release from Grundy County Coroner John Callahan, occurred around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday evening, Jan. 16, on Goodfarm Road in Goodfarm Township.

Preliminary investigation indicates Serena was eastbound on Goodfarm Road, approaching the overpass for Interstate 55,  when his pickup truck left the roadway and traveled down an embankment. The unit then traveled approximately 700 feet, coming to a rest on I-55.

Serena, the only occupant of the pickup, was ejected from the vehicle.

The crash is being reconstructed by the Illinois State Police. The coroner’s office was assisted at the scene by the Gardner/Dwight Fire Department.

The crash remains under investigation by Callahan’s office, the Grundy County Sheriff’s Department and the Illinois State Police.
