John Pogliano Sr.

WALNUT, Ill. — Mr. John Pogliano Sr., 91, of Walnut, Ill., died Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton, Ill.

Born Aug. 15, 1921, in Coal City, John was the son of John and Vena (Stellone) Pogliano. He was united in marriage to Darlene Perry on March 2, 1946, at Immaculate Conception Church in Morris.

John was a lifelong farmer in the Coal City and Walnut area and was a seed corn salesman since 1973.

He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, where he served as a trustee for many years, and a member of the Farm Bureau. He was a 4-H leader for many years and a tax assessor for 18 years.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene Pogliano of Walnut, Ill.; one son, John (Lana) Pogliano Jr. of Walnut, Ill.; two daughters, Kathy Togliatti of Coal City, and Mary (Steve) Bickett of Chicago; four grandchildren, John (Marcia) Pogliano III, Kristin (Jay) Ledergerber, Lisa (Bill) Smith and Mike Togliatti; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters; one brother; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Walnut. Father Tom Shaw, pastor, will officiate.

Burial will be at Braceville-Gardner Cemetery in Coal City.

A memorial has been established at the Walnut Food Pantry.
