Minnie Viola Porth

DWIGHT, Ill. — Mrs. Minnie Viola Porth, 95, of Dwight, Ill., a resident of Heritage Healthcare, passed away at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, at Morris Hospital.

Born April 17, 1917, in Dwight, Minnie was the daughter of Ole H. Thorson and Wilhelmine C. Fieldman. She married Michael J. Porth on June 1, 1944 in Dwight. He preceeded her in death in 1997.

She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and LCMS. She retired in 1986 as a roads and groundskeeper for Uniroyal Army Ammunitions Plant, Joliet, Ill. after 20 years. She previously  farmed southwest of Dwight for 16 years.

Mrs. Porth was orphaned along with six brothers and sisters north of Dwight in 1932. She and her older brother, Howard, kept the family together until 1944.

She enjoyed gardening, landscaping and planting all kinds of trees. Shehad a special relationship with her Lord and Savior.

Survivors include her daughter, Marcia (Jeff) Bennett of Dwight; grandchildren, Kevin M. (Julie) Bennett and Abby J. (Ryan) Bennett; great-grandchildren, Michael William Bennett; brother-in-law, John Porth; sisters-in-law, Betty Thorson, Frances Howard, Ann Sklut and Betty (Roy) Koehler; and numerous neices, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her son, Michael W. Porth, who died July 28, 2008, and her 10 siblings.

Her funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at the Emmauel Lutheran Church, Dwight.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at the church prior to service. 

Interment will follow at Round Grove Cemetery in rural Dwight, Ill.
