Cornell man charged with robbing Grand Ridge gas station

(MCT) — PONTIAC — A Cornell man who police say may be connected to several area robberies was charged Thursday with one case involving a Grand Ridge gas station.

Jacob Roach, 27, is charged with armed robbery of a Shell gas station Sunday afternoon in Grand Ridge. Pontiac Police Chief Jim Woolford said that he also is a suspect in several area robberies and burglaries.

Roach was arrested Tuesday night at his mother’s apartment.

He was traced to a pickup truck that was believed to have been stolen in the Streator area and was found Tuesday afternoon behind the Palamar motel in Pontiac. After receiving consent to search his mother’s nearby apartment, Roach was arrested without incident.

He remains jailed in LaSalle County jail in Ottawa in lieu of posting $75,000.

In addition to the armed robbery charge, he is also being held on an Illinois Department of Corrections parole violation warrant. Roach, who had been convicted of retail theft and aggravated fleeing of police, was released from prison in July.
