Shirley Elizabeth Lawton

COAL CITY — Mrs. Shirley Elizabeth Lawton, 90, a longtime resident of Coal City, Ill., passed away peacefully Feb. 1, 2013, in Dixon, Mo.

Shirley was born Oct. 4, 1922, to Katherine and William Welter in Aurora, Ill. She was happily married for 53 years to the late Charles Lawton, a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather.

She was the wonderful mother to Cheryl (William) Sorensen, Sheila (the late Steven) Lowery and Sharon (Chris) Liesman, as well as the fun-loving grandmother to William (Patricia) Sorensen, Charles Sorensen, Matthew (Andrea) Sorensen, Nichole Lowery, Thomas (Kari) Lowery, Rocky (Leslie) Liesman and Charlotte (Ron) Tutor. She was the great-grandmother to Ben, Luke, and Ella Sorensen, Grace and Amelia Tutor, and Roman Liesman.

Mrs. Lawton was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Lawton; a son-in-law, Steven Lowery; sisters Virginia Hettinger and Eleanor Schuett; and brothers-in-law Al Hettinger and Erv Schuett.

A funeral Mass will be held at Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, followed by interment at Ward Cemetery.
