DWIGHT, Ill. — Rosemary (Canale) Spandet, 93 of Dwight, Ill., passed away Wednesday morning, Feb. 6, 2013, at Heritage Health in Dwight, Ill.
Born Jan. 7, 1920, in Streator, Ill., Rosemary was a daughter of Vincent and Carmella (Leto) Canale. She married Arnold J. Spandet Jan. 31, 1940, in Streator.
Survivors include three daughters, Carol Hartley, Dwight; Carmelle (Carl) Haywood of Manville, Ill.; and Martha Spandet of Bourbonnais, Ill.; and three sons, Ronald (Jerilynn) Spandet, Sr., of Pinellas Park, Fla., Peter Spandet of Cardiff, and Arnold D. (Catherine) Spandet of Pontiac, Ill.; 18 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; and16 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold, who died in 2004; her son, Steve Spandet; two grandchildren, Janet Keith and Connie Jean Rudolph; one infant grandchild; and a son-in-law, John Hartley.
Rosemary was a nurse and worked at Dwight Correctional Facility and Continental Manor Nursing Home. She started Open Arms Shelter in Dwight.
She was a member of St Patrick's Catholic Church in Dwight and belonged to the Altar Rosary Society and St. Paul's Ladies Circle in Odell, Ill. She graduated from Streator High School.
Rosemary loved helping people. She still corresponded with many past patients. She attended mass daily.
Her funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Dwight. Visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, until the time of service. Father James Rickey will officiate.
Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Dwight.
Memorials are preferred to the family.
