Library launches new e-book program

Endowment will fund e-book collection and training at the library

The Morris Area Public Library is launching a new program, “E-Books for Everyone,” which provides e-book resources online through the library’s website as well as in-person e-reader training at the library.

Through the program, the library is building an e-book collection available to Morris cardholders using the OverDrive e-book lending platform.  Additionally, library staff will offer e-reader and OverDrive training both in classes and in one-on-one sessions.

“The Morris Area Public Library recognizes that e-books make it possible for more people to enjoy reading in ways that weren’t previously available,” Library Director Kyla Waltermire said. “While we are dedicated to providing print resources for those who need them, we also want to embrace readers who find that using e-readers is better suited to their needs.”

This new library program is made possible by the Bowker-Ostrem-Holderman Endowment for Life-Long Learning Fund. The Bowker-Ostrem-Holderman Endowment for Life-Long Learning Fund was established by the granddaughters of Dr. Bowker to honor their grandfather’s commitment to the Morris Area Public Library, as well as honoring the years of service of Dr. Bowker’s nurse, Stella Ostrem. The fund is administered by the Community Foundation of Grundy County.

“With e-readers being suitable for all ages, it’s exciting to know that the Morris Area Public Library can use the Bowker-Ostrem-Holderman Endowment to keep up with modern technology and fulfill the endowment’s purpose of lifelong learning,” says Julie Buck, executive director of the Community Foundation of Grundy County.  “I hope more patrons will take advantage of this expanding service.”

The Bowker-Ostrem-Holderman Fund is endowed, so it will forever grant 5 percent of its value to the Morris Area Public Library for additional programming related to life-long learning.
