Julia H. Bien

Mrs. Julia H. Bien, 90, Morris, passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, Feb. 5, 2013, at Morris Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center with her loving family by her side.

Born May 22, 1922, in Morris, Julia Helen was the daughter of the late Peter and Theresa (Stanois) Kopczick. She grew up in Morris and received her education in Immaculate Conception School.

Julia started working at an early age to help support her family. She was the oldest daughter of nine children.

Julia was proud of her efforts as a welder in the Seneca Shipyards during World War II in building the LSTs. She also was a waitress, did ironing and was a caregiver in her later years.

Julia married the love of her life, Joseph A. Bien, on March 2, 1946 in Immaculate Conception Church. They resided in Morris all of their life.

She truly loved spending time with her family and felt that it was an honor to be a wife and mother. She enjoyed traveling to visit her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She enjoyed celebrating Polish Traditions of the holiday seasons, especially Christmas. She looked forward to the family togetherness on Wednesday evenings and was so proud of her Hummingbird tattoo.

She loved taking in garage sales, reading as well as collecting and watching birds.

Julia was a member of Immaculate Conception Church. She served as an election judge in the fourth ward for many years. She was a past member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Morris American Legion Post #294 and the Women’s Auxiliary of John Martin Steele Post #6049 V.F.W.

Survivors include her four loving daughters, Patricia Bien of Macon, Ga., Carol and her husband Gary Gunnerson of Indio, Calif., Tressa and her husband David Hextell, and Marlene and her husband Sherman Workman of Morris; nine grandchildren, Karri (Irwin) Jose of Alameda, Calif., Brooke Gunnerson of Indio, Calif., Becki (Aaron) Wright and Kelly Bien of Tucson, Ariz., Brian (Susan Raguse) Hextell of Aurora, Ill., Katherine (Kyle) Moseley of Bullard, Texas, Brent Hextell of Windsor, Colo., Jamie Workman of Oxford, Ohio, and Sherman J. (Katie) Workman of Carbondale, Colo.; six great-grandchildren, Desi and Dante Jose, Ryan Gunnerson, Miranda and Joey Wright and Sherman M. Workman; two sisters, Constance Donovan and Joann Knudson of Morris; daughter-in-law, JoAnn Bien of Tuscon, Ariz.; numerous nieces and nephews; and dear friends, Barb LaMonte and Marie Klinker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband on July 1, 2000; one son, Joseph Peter Bien, on Feb. 14, 2004; one sister, Maryann Kopczick; five brothers, Joseph, Raymond, Walter, Stanley and John Kopczick; and her beloved pet, Mandy, in 2012.

Visitation is from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at U. C. Davis & Sons Funeral Home ltd., 301 W. Washington St., Morris.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9. at Immaculate Conception Church, 516 E. Jackson St., Morris. Rev. Fr. Edward J. Howe, CR, will officiate.

Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

Serving as her honorary pallbearers will be Desi and Dante Jose, Joey  Wright and Sherman M. Workman. Pallbearers  will be Brian and Brent Hextell, Sherman J. Workman, Ryan Gunnerson, Richard Kopczick and George Knudson.

Preferred form of remembrance would be memorial gifts in Julia’s memory directed to Immaculate Conception Church, Pegasus Riding Academy for the Handicap in Palm Desert, CA. or Joliet Area Community Hospice.
