Man wounded after robber warns, 'Don't run or I'll just start shooting'

(MCT) — A man was shot and seriously wounded during a robbery on the Far South Side as a motorist tried to thwart the hold-up by running into one of the robbers, police said.

The man, 24, was walking with another man, 22, when two robbers approached them at the intersection of 96th Street and Clyde Avenue around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to a police report.

"Don’t run or I’ll just start shooting," one of the robbers said, according to the report. "Gimme what you got."

The robber took the 22-year-old man's white iPhone, but his companion fought back and was shot in the buttocks, the report said.

The 22-year-old started running north on Clyde, passing an acquaintance who got behind the wheel of her station wagon, jumped the curb and hit one of the robbers, the report said. She then jumped out and started beating him with her fists, police said.

When officers got to the scene, they saw the robbery victim lying in a pool of blood on a sidewalk and the station wagon parked on a front lawn, the report said.

The victim was taken Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious-to-critical condition, according to Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford.

No arrests were reported.
