Interstate Eight Conference girls team announced

Five area players were among the 20 recently named to the All-Conference girls basketball team in the Interstate Eight.

Coal City junior Emily Halliday was the top selection to the team. She was joined by teammates Donjeta Shabani, a senior and Nicole Borgetti, a junior.

Seneca landed senior Chelsie McCormick and junior Danielle Hauch on the team.

Conference champion Lisle landed seniors Kristina Fernette, and Kelly Urban and Skyler Thomkoon the team. Plano, which tied with Coal City for second place at 9-2, was represented by Zhate Jackson, Clarissa Martinez and Tachae Miles.

The team also includes Brittney Campione, Kayla Paeth and Shelby Maupin of Peotone, Susie Sternard and Amanda Anderson of Peotone, Caitlyn Welch of Reed-Custer, Natalie Hatalla of Manteno, Alyson Wiemken of Dwight and Lauren Homerding of Wilmington.

Courtney Helms of Seneca was a special mention All-Conference selection. Joining her in that regard were Anna Ford and Kaylyn Wedra of Sandwich, Tiffany Nugent of Wilmington, Alexi Matthews of Herscher, Lisa Bruner of Dwight, Temira Ellis of Plano and Ashley Welch.

The Interstate Eight also released its list of Senior All-Stars for the 2012-13 season. McCormick and Shabani were local selections. Others chosen were Campione, Jackson, Sternard, Fernettte, Urban, Miles, Shabani, Tomko, Paeth, Maupin, Anderson and Homerding.
