Eleanor Berta Fulton

COAL CITY, Ill. — Mrs. Eleanor Berta Fulton, 91, of Coal City, Ill., passed away unexpectedly Friday evening, March 1, 2013.

Visitation and video tribute will be held at New Hope Presbyterian Church, 80 North Garfield Street (at First Street) in Coal City from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 4. Funeral services will follow at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 5, in the church. The Rev. Nate Manzo will officiate and burial will follow in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery, where Eleanor will be laid to rest with her husband, Sam.

Born March 1, 1922, in Coal City, Eleanor was a daughter of the late Thomas J. and Clara Pierard-Berta. She attended the Coal City South Side School and graduated from Coal City High School with the Class of 1940.

On June 17, 1949, Eleanor married Samuel J. Fulton at The Presbyterian Church in Coal City. He preceded her in death on Dec. 19, 1995.

Eleanor worked at the Atlas Wallpaper Mill for 17 years, prior to gaining employment with DeMert, Inc., from where she retired after 14 years. She was a member of New Hope Presbyterian Church in Coal City, where she served as trustee and was active with the New Hope Woman's Association and Choir.

Eleanor was also a member of the Community Choir and delivered for Meals on Wheels for many years. She took great pleasure in her pinochle card club and traveling to Door County with her sister, Mary; brother-in-law, George; and dear friend, Marian Born.

Eleanor also greatly enjoyed painting, drawing, ceramics, and spending time – as well as participating in activities – with her many friends and family. 

Survivors include her two sons, Robert T. (Chris) Fulton of Galesburg, Ill., and Thomas J. Fulton of Coal City; two grandchildren, Anita Fulton of Chicago and Brian (Katie) Fulton of Monticello, Ill.; two great-grandchildren, Alaric Fulton and Amara Fulton; and her sister Mary (George) Enrietta of Coal City.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, Clara Berta in 1949 and Thomas Berta in1983; her husband, Sam, in 1995; one brother, Thomas Berta, in 1988; and one grandson, Mark Fulton, in 1972.

Pallbearers will be Brian Fulton, Doug Baker, Greg Born, David McLuckie, Jim Muntefering and Gary Washburn.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Eleanor's memory to New Hope Presbyterian Church, Alzheimer's Research, or to The American Diabetes Association.
