CHENOA — McLean County authorities are investigating after a man was struck and killed by an Amtrak passenger train late Friday night.

McLean County Coroner Beth Kimmerling says 53-year-old Anthony Bernardini, last of Spring Valley, was struck by a northbound train while walking home near U. S. 24 and Morehead in Chenoa.

Police and rescue crews were called to the area shortly after 9 p.m. Friday night; Bernardini was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:43 p.m.

Lexington Police, McLean County Sheriff’s Department, Chenoa Police and Chenoa Fire Departments  responded..

Due to the extent of the injuries, Bernardini’s identity will be confirmed via finger print comparison this week.

Kimmerling says alcohol may have been a contributing factor, and both the McLean County Coroner's Office and Chenoa Police Department continue to investigate the incident.
