Peggy A. Allen

DIAMOND, Ill. — Mrs. Kenneth (Peggy A.) Allen of Diamond, Ill., and formerly of Morris, Ill., passed away in her home with her loving family by her bedside Thursday evening, March 7, 2013.

Born Aug. 20, 1941, in Belknap, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Lucille (Wicks) Alsip. Peggy was educated in Simpson Grade School in Vienna, Ill., and Vienna High School. She graduated from Naperville Central High School with the Class of 1959.

Peggy married in 1961, and two children, Susan and Roger, were born.

On March 6, 1981, she married Kenneth Allen in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Morris, Ill.

She was employed with Jordan’s Shoe Store as the manager, and later with Carpetile in downtown Morris. A civic lady, Peggy gave her time to the Morris American Legion Post #294. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Grundy County Fairgrounds during the racing season for over 20 years.

Peg was a member of the United Methodist Church in Coal City, and served as treasurer of the Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post #294 in Morris.

Surviving is her husband, Ken, and their children, Susan (fiance Mark Borgstrom and his sons Nick and Matt) Breitweiser of Morris, Roger (Gail) Breitweiser of Morris, and John (Julene) Allen of Fair Oaks, Ind.; eight grandchildren, Matt, Ken, Chris, Steven, Brandon, Emma, James and Sawyer; and two great-grandsons, Ethan and J. J..

Several nieces and nephews, along with one brother-in-law, Jim (Alice) Allen of Sarasota, Fla., also survive.

Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by one son, James K. Allen, on March 18, 1985; one sister, Pat Alsip; and one brother, Elmer Alsip.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, March 10, at the U. C. Davis & Sons Funeral Home Ltd. in Morris. Funeral services will follow at 10 a.m. Monday, March 11, in the United Methodist Church in Coal City, with Dr. Thomas R. Logsdon officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Morris.

Memorials may be made in Peggy’s name to the Coal City United Methodist Church Building Fund.
