Former Morris resident sentenced for aggravated battery of a child

Connor gets 33 days in jail, two years probation

Zachary E. Connor, 24, formerly of the 300 block of Lincoln St., Morris, pleaded guilty to a charge of aggravated battery to a child Tuesday.

He was sentenced to 33 days in jail, 24 months probation and, because his victim was under 5 years old at the time, Connor has to register as a violent offender against youth for the next 10 years, Grundy County State's Attorney Jason Helland said. A charge of endangering the life of a child was dismissed pending the plea agreement.

Connor, who now resides in Joliet, was arrested in February by the Joliet Police Department on a Grundy County warrant.

On Nov. 13, 2011, a child was taken to Morris Hospital with extensive life-threatening, non-accidental injuries. Due to the severity of the injuries, the child was airlifted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Ill.

Connor received credit for the jail time he has already served and was ordered to pay almost $500 in court fines and costs, plus $20 a month in probation fees.
