Vernon W. Derossett

CHENOA, Ill. — Mr. Vernon W. Derossett, 72, of Chenoa, Ill., and formerly of Pontiac, Ill., passed away at 1:10 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at Meadows Home in Chenoa.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 18, at the Pontiac Church of the Nazarene, 618 N. Plum St., Pontiac. Pastor Fred Fritz will officiate. Burial will follow in Cornell Cemetery in Cornell, Ill.

Visitation will also be Monday, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.

Born June 12, 1940, in Streator, Vernon was the son of James Derossett and Grace (Persinger) Wilkerson. He married Joanne Enervold in Pontiac on Oct. 23, 2004. She survives.

Also surviving are a son, Allen (Lori) Berryhill of Streator, Ill.; daughters Jennifer Derossett of Marseilles, Ill., and Sherri Derossett of Streator; stepsons James Messer of Bakersfield, Calif., Ralph Messer of Pontiac, and Bruce Messer of Pontiac; sisters Barbara (Orrin) Tucker of Kanaley, Ill., Carolyn Brunton of Vinita, Okla., Elain (Keith) Kelly of Bloomington, Ill., and Linda (Barry) Masters of Odell, Ill.; one grandchild, Amber Gordon; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and one brother, Larry Derossett of Streator.

A graduate of Woodland High School, Mr. Derossett was employed at Caterpillar, retiring after 35 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Preferred memorials are gifts to a charity of the donor’s choice.
