MAZON, Ill. — Mrs. Robert ( Evelyn A. ) Bates, 76, of Mazon, Ill., passed away peacefully with her loving family be her side early Tuesday morning, March 19, 2013, in Morris Hospital.
Born on Sept. 13, 1936, in Morris, Ill., the daughter of Gilbert and Dorothy Rose Gantzert, she received her elementary education in the Burleigh School in Mazon Township and graduated from Mazon High School with the Class of 1954.
Evelyn married the love of her life, Robert T. Bates, on April 22, 1956, in the Park Street Congregational Church in Mazon, Ill..
She was employed for over 20 years with the M-V-K School District as the cafeteria manager, retiring in 1996.
She enjoyed visiting with her many friends and family, and treasured the time spent following her grandchildren’s many activities.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Morris, a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, an active member for over 40 years of the Norman Homemakers, and a member of the M-V-K Senior Citizens
Surviving is her loving husband, Robert, and their children, Steven and his wife, Angela Bates, of Hampton, N.J., Lynn Rexroade of Minooka, Ill., and Susan and her husband, Brian Warning, of Verona, Ill.
Also surviving are nine Grandchildren, Taylor Bates, Sydney (Bryan) Carpenter, Reagan Bates, Erica (Dan) Read, Victor (Kathleen) Rexroade, Robert Rexroade, and Brittany, Brooke and Brianna Warning; five great-grandchildren, Cade and Kendall Read, Caleb and Max Rexroade, and Jaxson Carpenter; one sister, Donna (Don) Gorman of Morris, Ill.,; one brother, Paul Gantzert, of Joliet, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters in infancy.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 21, at U. C. Davis & Sons Funeral Home Ltd., 301 W. Washington St., Morris. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 22, in the funeral home, with the Rev. Scott Zorn of the First Christian Church officiating.
Interment will follow in Mazon Cemetery.
Preferred form of remembrance would be memorial gifts in Evelyn’s memory directed to the Mazon-Brookside Cemetery or the M-V-K Ambulance Service.
