Francisco named St. Mary’s CCW Woman of the Year

Minooka resident recognized for service to church, community

MINOOKA — Peg Francisco was named Woman of the Year at the February meeting of the St. Mary’s of Minooka Council of Catholic Women.

Peg and her counter parts from CCW groups throughout the Diocese of Joliet will be honored Saturday, April 20, 2013, at the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonatus during a special 9:30 a.m. Mass celebrated by Bishop R. Daniel Conlon.  The theme of the Mass and luncheon that follows will be “We Have Come to Believe.”

Peg joined St. Mary’s Parish 34 years ago when she and her late husband Gene moved to Minooka. Active in the church, she is a Eucharistic Minister and Minister of Care, volunteers at the rectory on a weekly basis, is a member of the church book club and has taught CCD.

Since she became involved in CCW, Peg has worked with the Giving Tree, Summerfest and various other committees and is currently chairperson of the Church Commission.

She initiated the annual Scarves for the Needy Campaign and organized the on-going Prayer Square Ministry.

Having formerly taught in Chaney-Monge District 88 and most recently Minooka District 201, Peg now enjoys working as a substitute teacher at Minooka Intermediate School and Minooka Jr. High from where she retired.

Peg also enjoys fitness activities, quilting, knitting, reading, and spending time with family, friends, her CCW and St. Mary’s family, and the pride and joys of her life — sons Paul and Todd, daughter-in-law Amanda, and precious grandsons Colton and Jaxon.
