VERONA, Ill — Mr. Inez “Sonny” Villarreal Jr., 71, of Verona, Ill., passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side Tuesday evening, March 26, 2013, in Embassay Care Center in Wilmington, Ill.
Born on April 9, 1941, in Cuevitas, Texas, he was the son of Inez and Paulina Salinas Villarreal.
Sonny married the love of his life, Emma Thatcher, on Dec. 18, 1959, in Texas. With his loving wife and family, they left Texas and moved to Verona, Ill., to make their home in 1966.
He was employed with Sponge Cushion Carpet Pad Company on Armstrong Street in Morris for over 31 years, and he retired as the plant superintendent in 1997.
He loved his job at Sponge Cushion. In fact, you could say it was his second home. Sonny possessed a great sense of humor that he enjoyed sharing with his many friends and family.
Surviving is his loving wife, Emma, of Morris, Ill., and their eight children, Ruben Villarreal of Seneca, Ill.; Fernando “Ponch” Villarreal, and his wife, Carla, Elda Villarreal and her mate, Heidi Letterly, and Rosalinda Villarreal, all of Morris; Daniel Villarreal and his wife, Barbara; Armando Villarreal, Orlando Villarreal and his wife, Patricia, and Moncia Gonzalez, all of Omaha, Neb.
Also surviving are numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister, Idolina Villalon in Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Minerva Villarreal; one sister, Maria Noelia Thatcher; and one brother, Israel Villarreal.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 29, at U. C. Davis & Sons Funeral Home Ltd., 301 W. Washington St., Morris, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 30, with the Rev. Edward J. Howe, CR, of Immaculate Conception Church officiating. Interment will follow in Ward Cemetery.
