‘Yonkers’ comes to Morris later this year

Reservations being taken now for performances in early May

The Morris Theatre Guild, Inc. has begun rehearsals and is taking reservations for its spring production of Neil Simon’s “Lost in Yonkers.”

By America’s great comic playwright, Neil Simon, this memory play is set in Yonkers in 1942.

The story:  Bella is 35-years-old, mentally challenged and living at home with her mother, stern Grandma Kurnitz. As the play opens, ne’er-do-well son Eddie deposits his two young sons on the old lady’s doorstep.

He is financially strapped and taking to the road as a salesman. The boys are left to contend with Grandma, Bella, her secret romance, Louie, her brother, a small-time hoodlum in a strange new world called Yonkers.

The cast consists of both veteran and new guild members, including Ryan Nichols and Josh Wren, both of Minooka; Andrea Gustafson, Dylan Obrochta, and Mathew Root, all of Morris; Michelle Vrtis of Ottawa; and Mary Lerner of Wilmington.

The production is directed by Jim Welch of Morris and assisted by Tim Atchison of Plainfield.

Lost in Yonkers opens on Friday, May 3, 2013. The production continues on May 4, 5, 10, and 11, and closes on Sunday, May 12, 2013, (Mother’s Day).
