Blaze damages local hair salon

Damage estimated at $40,000

A fire caused significant damage to Roots Hair Studio in Morris Saturday morning.

According to Morris Fire Chief Tracey Steffes, the fire caused about $40,000 in damage to the salon at 224 W. Washington St.

The fire was ruled accidental and there were no injuries.

Roots Hair Studio opened in 2010.

Since then, it has offered hair cuts, waxing, facials, make-up artistry and massage and hot stone therapy.

After the fire was reported Saturday, numerous community members shared condolences and expressed support for the studio.

Owner Jonelle Marie Carter could not be reached for comment as of press time, but wrote in a post on the Roots Facebook page Saturday that she would be contacting clients with updates on appointments.

“It is with a heavy heart that we must announce that Roots Hair Studio was destroyed early this morning in a fire,” Carter wrote.

“We want to thank all clients, friends and family for the love and support that we have received today.”
