CHANNAHON — Tantress Salon & Boutique started as a dream and has since evolved into a success story.

Area native Tanya Morris began her journey in the hair industry about 15 years ago. Her passion about hair and the integrity of exceptional service  has grown ever since.

Gradually, Tanya’s vision was to “create a salon environment where clients feel welcome and stylists appreciated,” according to the salon’s website, www

Today, with the support of co-owners Brianne Kessling and Sara Fleming and a team of dependable stylists, the result of Morris’ dedication stands at 24513 Eames St. (U.S. 6) in Channahon.

How did Tantress get started?

Life-long resident Tanya Morris started her career in a two-chair salon in Minooka in 1998 with good friend Lynda Flatness. Tanya’s dream was to always have her own salon, so a few years later Tantress opened in Channahon.

Tantress first started out as a small 500-square-foot salon with only a few stylists. The business really started to grow, so in 2005 she decided to take a bigger leap and open up a new location on U.S. 6.

The salon now has 10 styling chairs, color bar, shampoo relaxation room and boutique. We have been at that location for eight years. We have a talented team of nine stylists and  we are still growing.

What makes Tantress unique from other salons?

It’s our shampoo relaxation room and customer service. Clients can really unwind in this room.

All clients receive a 10-minute scalp message in a aroma therapy room. If clients get color, they receive a hot towel. Clients have said “Tantress looks like a big city salon, but has a small town feel to it.”

At Tantress, not only do we care about the service we provide, but the lives we touch.

Tantress has grown significantly since its opening several years ago. What do you credit as the reasons for the salon’s success?

Our loyal clients and our talented staff. The majority of our clients have been with us over 10 years. They have referred in many friends and family — that’s why we are successful.

In what ways do you expect Tantress to evolve in the future?

We want to continue to provide quality services and develop personal relationships with our clients and community.

How do the stylists at Tantress keep up with the ever-changing trends in the hair/makeup industry?

Frequently, the stylists take advance classes, in salon classes and attend trade shows.

Besides the salon, Tantress also features a boutique. What can customers expect to find in this boutique?

We have small boutique in salon, which has one of a kind jewelry, scarves, purses and clothing, all under $20. They make great gifts, so stop in anytime to shop or look around.

Are there any specials, promotions, events or opportunities you want the area residents to be aware of?

During the month of May, women’s haircuts (includes blowdry & style) are $20; men’s or boy’s cuts are $13;  and cut and color or highlights for $60. This is offer is valid only with Lauren, Aimee and Catie. Please mention this article when booking the appointment.
