Joseph R. Ragan

VERONA, Ill. — Mr. Joseph Robert Ragan, born Jan. 3, 1926, went home to the Lord on Friday, April 26, 2013, at Joliet Area Community Hospice Home in Joliet.

He was the son of Joseph and Mae (Mallaney) Ragan of Verona. A graduate of Mazon High School with the Class of 1944, he farmed the family farm, besides working for Seneca Shipyard, Joliet Ammunition Plant, Federal Paper Board and Commonwealth Edison before retiring.

In November of 1951, he married Beverly Janovsky of Lockport, Ill., who preceded him in death in September 1971. Their children are Patricia (Wesley) Havekost of Dwight, Ill., Barbara Ragan of Morris, Ill., and Scott (Darla Woodridge) Ragan of Dwight.

In July of 1981, he married Charleen Thomas of Morris. She survives, as do his three step-children, Mark (Joan) Henneberry of Denver, Colo., Kathleen Henneberry of Naperville, Ill., and Sharon (Roger)Sarti of Naplate, Ill.

Joseph is also survived by two sisters, Mary (TJ, deceased) Prindiville and Rita (James, deceased) Vreeland of Florida; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy (Robert Sons, deceased) of Lockport and Joann Lanter of Inverness of Florida; brothers-in-law, Donald (Wilda) Lanter of Belleville, Ill., and Dale (Yuki) Lanter of California; 12 grandchildren, Julie (Adam) VanGilder, Adam and Lisa Havekost, Peter (Katie) Thetard, Kelly (Andrew) Grath, Matthew (Keri) Ragan, Shane (Marabelle) Ragan, Elisabeth (Kelly) Rath, Niles Ragan, Alexandra Sarti and Zachary Sarti, Steven Esposito and Jenna Esposito.

He was preceded in death by his first wife; a stepson; four brothers-in-law; one sister-in-law; and one sister, Kathleen Ragan, who died at birth.

Joseph was a Moose member since 1951. He enjoyed camping, fishing, boating and watching all sports, especially when his grandchildren were playing. He spent many hours with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, of which he had seven, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

All friends and relatives are invited to attend a memorial Mass, which will be held at a later date as arrangements are pending.
