Free services offered to job seekers locally

A series of workshops for jobseekers from the area will be held at Joliet Junior College, Grundy Workforce Services office, 1715 N. Division Street in Morris.

Programs are supported by grants from the Grundy Livingston Kankakee Work-force Board, which oversees and sets policy for workforce development and training programs for Grundy, Livingston and Kankakee counties.

Individuals are encouraged to register for the workshops by calling (815) 942-0566 or going online to www.grundyworkforce.com.

Among the workshops to be offered in May are:

• Workforce Investment Act (WIA) — This orientation session will introduce you to all the Job Search and Training services provided at the Grundy Workforce Services office.  Participants will learn about eligibility requirements for free college/training scholarships.

The workshop will be offered from 10 a.m. to noon Monday, May 6, and again Monday, May 20.

• Computer Skills Assess-ment —  In partnership with the Grundy Housing Authority, Joliet Junior College’s Plus 50 Workforce Development program offers computer courses for individuals 50+ seeking computer skills for employment.  In this workshop, the participant will take a skills survey to see where they are functioning.

Assessments will be held from 1 to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, May 7, 14, 21, and 28.
