New Dist. 101 Board keeps same officers

Also opts to maintain same schedule for its meetings

The Morris Community High School District 101 Board welcomed its new members at its organizational meeting Monday.

For the five positions that were up for election April 9, three new members were elected.
Denny Best and James Paulson were re-elected to their seats. Best received 2,248 votes and Paulson 2,756.

Stephen Stangland, Thomas Anderson and Delores Robinson were the new members elected. Stangland, who is a past board member who served from 1993 to 2001, received 2,670 votes. Anderson got 2,059 and Robinson 1,999.

Board members Judie Roth and Eric Monson’s positions were not up for election. Monson was not present at Monday’s meeting, said Superintendent Dr. Pat Halloran Tuesday.

With the new members gaining election, former board members John Maddox and Karen Meucci were voted out. Dr. James Allen did not run for re-election. Allen was not present Monday, said Halloran. Maddox and Meucci were present and were given plaques for their service.

Maddox served four years on the high school board and Meucci 10 months, said Halloran. Meucci was appointed to the board last summer to fill Damon Sloan’s position after he resigned.

The new board’s first order of business was to elect its officers, which did not change from the previous board. Best will continue on as president, Paulson as vice president, and Roth as secretary.

These three members were the only ones nominated for board positions, said Halloran.

The new board also decided not to change when its board meetings are held. The board will continue to meet at 6:30 p.m. the second Monday of each month.

President Best asked the board members to let him know what committees the members would be interested in serving on for the board, said Halloran. At the May school board meeting, the board will vote on committee assignments.

The board will meet next May 13.
