Kenneth Arneson

Mr. Kenneth Arneson, 84, of Morris, Ill., passed away with his loving family by his side Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, Ill.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 4, at Fruland Funeral Home, 121 W. Jefferson St., Morris, with Pastor Todd Thomson officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 3, at the funeral home. Military honors will be provided by the Morris Color Guard.

Born Aug. 1, 1928, in Morris, he was the son of Gordon and Lucille (Steele) Arneson.  He graduated from Morris High School with the Class of 1946. He attended Culver Stockton University in Missouri and received his B.S. Degree from Illinois State University in Normal. Later, he obtained his master’s degree from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb.

Mr. Arneson began his 30-plus years of teaching and coaching in Mazon, Ill., and ultimately completed his career at Rolling Meadows High School, District 214.

He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Kenneth married Phyllis Fread on June 26, 1954, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Morris. They settled and raised their family in Arlington Heights.

He enjoyed summers with his wife and family in northern Wisconsin. For the past 25 years, he enjoyed winters in Florida.

Survivors include his children, Tom Arneson of Largo, Fla., Bill (Shellie) Arneson of Plainfield, Ill., and Amy (Ed) Cryan of Orland Park, Ill.; five grandchildren, Amanda, Ashley and Zack Arneson, and Dan and Matt Cryan; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his loving wife, Phyllis, on Nov. 27, 1982; and one sister, Jackie Tendall.

He was a member of the Morris American Legion Post 294.

Ken enjoyed hunting, fishing, the Chicago Cubs, and the University of Illinois athletics.

Memorials may be directed to the American Lung Association or Morris Hospital.
