SANDWICH — Indian Valley Theatre is now taking registrations for it’s two Summer Theatre Workshops. With these sessions, IVT offers children of all ages a fun, safe and rewarding atmosphere to learn about theatre and build confidence.

Families interested in learning more before registering are invited to come to a Workshop Meet and Greet being held at the Sandwich Opera House Community Room from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 4. Parents and students can meet the teachers, tour the Opera House, and ask questions before registering for the workshop.

Now in its 30th year, IVT’s Children’s Theatre Workshop will be held June 10 through June 22 (Monday to Friday) and is for students entering first grade in the fall through eighth grade. The cost for the two-week program is $80 per student.

This year, organizers are excited to bring to the stage “The Sasparilla Kid and the Bally Hoo Belle Gang,” a play written by Alethia Hummel. Children will get to take part in an action-packed western adventure as they work to save Sasparilla Springs from the greatest threat it has ever seen.

Complete with heroes, villains and tumbleweeds, every child is cast in a part adapted to fit his or her specific talents and needs, which allows him or her to explore, imagine, create and have fun through the world of theatre arts.

The High School program, One Act Wonders Acting Workshop, will be held June 17 to June 21, and is for students entering high school in fall through just-graduated seniors. The cost for the one-week program is $60 per student.

In a rigorous, but relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere, students will rehearse and prepare a variety of theatrical pieces, both comedic and dramatic. With the help of Sandwich High School theatre director Kevin Pajor, the actors will explore their inner talents and prepare for a performance for their family and friends at the end of the program.

The registration deadline for both workshops is Monday, June 3, but classes will fill up quickly. More information is available at

All classes and performances are held at the Historical Sandwich Opera House.
