COAL CITY, Ill. — Mr. Ralph Eugene Lopez Sr., 91, of Coal City, Ill., passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet.
Born Sept. 6, 1921, in Joliet, Ralph was a son of the late Benito and Cleo Saldana-Lopez. He was raised and educated in Joliet, and served in the Unites States Marines Corp during World War II in the Pacific Theater of Operations.
Ralph was a former member of the Cedar Rapids, Iowa, VFW, and currently belonged to the Morris VFW John Martin Steele Post 6049. Ralph worked for 31 years as an automatic burner for Caterpillar Tractor Company in Joliet, retiring in 1977.
After retirement, Ralph worked for Joliet Equipment and other various places as part-time maintenance. Ralph moved to Coal City in the late 1990s and will be remembered for playing basketball, baseball, a little golf and enjoying to dance.
Survivors include his three sons, Roger (Angie) Lopez of Crest Hill, Ill., Ralph E. Lopez Jr. of Wilmington, Ill., and Mark Lopez of Washington; seven grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; as well as his good friend and caretaker, Ruth.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson; and one granddaughter.
Burial with full military honors will be in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood.
