3 French Hens start season 5

Markets again slated for CanalPort Park

The fifth season of the 3 French Hens French Country Market will start this Saturday, May 11.

With a record 130 vendors scheduled to take part, the market will cater to a wide array of interests. Market favorites from past seasons will be available, along with heirloom and organic veggies; farm fresh beef, chicken and eggs; soy candles; braided rugs; and much more.

The cheese man, offering artisan cheeses, is among vendors returning for another season. Market organizers, therefore, remind you to bring a small cooler in your car to hold perishables, while you spend the afternoon strolling the canal or downtown Morris!

Held along the banks of the historic Illinois & Michigan Canal, on West Illinois Avenue in CanalPort Park, the market will be open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

What was once the trade route for canal barges, proves to once again be the perfect setting for vendors selling their wares. Along with farmers market fare, there are antiques, artisans, jewelry designers, garden goods, annuals and perennials, and many one-of-a-kind finds. The Market is held rain or shine.

The canal boat replica will feature the sounds of “Instant Karma”, an eclectic mix of past and present musical favorites provided by Mandi Rediger and Kim Chapman.  Further down on the Market’s west end, “Growing-N-Music” will feature violinist Colleen Lawrence.  All musicians are invited to sign up to play at the venue, and shoppers, please remember all musicians volunteer their talents... so tipping is greatly appreciated.

Organized by local shopkeepers, Monica Vogel and Traci Tessone as an opportunity to showcase great wares, and share the community of Morris with those from near and far, the market is held the second Saturday of each month, May through October.

It is not uncommon for shoppers to come at 8 a.m. and stay until it is over. Many comment they come to buy, and end up visiting with family, friends, and neighbors.

On Market dates from June through October, the fun doesn’t end at 2 p.m., but continues with Cruise Night, held in downtown Morris.

The dates for the 3 French Hens French Country Market are May 11, June 8, July 13, Aug. 10, Sept. 14, and Oct. 12. All Markets will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. this season; there will not be any evening venues.
