BRIEFS: Elvis’ son will perform in Streator Saturday night

STREATOR — Streator Firefighters Local 56 will have its 26th annual Country Music Concert at 7:30 p.m. tonight, Saturday, May 11, in the Streator High School Auditorium.

Aaron Elvis Presley Jr., the real son of Elvis Presley, will be performing along with the Dan Everhart Band.

Driver safety class will be offered next week

AARP has announced Morris Hospital will host a Driver Safety Class on Monday and Tuesday, May 13 and 14.

Under the laws of the state of Illinois, drivers over the age of 55 can get a discount on their liability automobile insurance by completing this class.

The course consists of two four-hour days beginning Monday and concluding Tuesday. The class will be held at the hospital, 150 West High St., Morris.

Car show will benefit children’s hospitals

The Children’s Miracle Network Classic Car Show will be held Saturday, May 18, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Morris Walmart, 333 East U.S. 6, Morris.

Entry fee is a $5 donation to the children’s hospitals. There will be a cookout with great prices on the food. Tickets can be purchased to vote for your favorite car.

Newark Garden Club will sell plants May 18

The Newark Garden Club perennial plant sale will take place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at the Newark BP station on Illinois 71 in Newark, Ill.

This is an opportunity to purchase quality plants at reasonable prices. A variety of perennials, iris, hostas, daylilies, cat mint, etc., will be available for your selection.

These plants come from the gardens of club members, who will be there to answer questions and advise you.
