BRAIDWOOD, Ill. — Mr. Richard Charles McCawley, 79, of Braidwood, Ill., passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox.

Born Oct. 31, 1933, to the late Charles and Lena (Jackson) McCawley, Richard was a graduate of Reed-Custer High School with the Class of 1951. He served his country from 1954 to 1956.

He married Nerina Ferrari on Nov. 16, 1957, in South Wilmington, Ill., and was employed by Caterpillar in Joliet until his retirement in 1999 with 41 years of service. He was a past member of the Reed-Custer school board and the Mt. Olivet Cemetery board.

He is survived by three daughters, Cynthia Olson of Herscher, Ill., and Lisa (Gary) Basham and Susan ( Kevin) Gutzman, both of Braceville, Ill.; eight grandchildren, Rachelle (Randy) Thompson, Christina (Jerry) Sukley, Kimberly Basham, Jeffrey  (fiancée Justine) Olson, David Olson, Matthew Olson, Brad Gutzman, and Kathryn Gutzman; five great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Deanna (Richard) Serdar; two aunts, Elsie Tryner of Washington, Ill., and Helen Dryer of Carbon Hill, Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 47 years, Nerina; a sister-in-law, Imogene, and brother-in-law, George Barker; and two nieces, Mardean Barker and Jolene Svobod.

Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, May 21, from Ferrari Funeral Services, at the corner of Spring Road and Ferrari Drive in Coal City, at 9:30 a.m. to Immaculate Conception Church in Braidwood for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. The Rev. Show Reddy Allam will officiate. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Braidwood. 

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 20, at Ferrari Funeral Services, 1044 Ferrari Dr., Coal City.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Olson, David Olson, Brad Gutzman, Matt Olson, George Barker, and David Jackson.

Memorial contributions in Richard’s name to the Joliet Area Community Hospice would be appreciated.
