Catherine Steele

BRAIDWOOD, Ill. — Mrs. Catherine “Cathy” Steele, 70, of Braidwood, Ill., and formerly of Forest Park, Ill., passed away Sunday, May 19, 2013, at Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, Ill.

Born Jan. 17, 1943 in Chicago, Catherine was a daughter of the late Glenn and Catherine Flood-Fountain. She was raised and educated in Chicago and graduated from Providence High School.

On Feb. 18, 1961, Cathy married Richard D. Steele in Lombard, Ill., and together they made their home in Forest Park until moving to Braidwood in 1995. Cathy held employment at Oak Park Hospital prior to going to work for Dr. Yerkes in Wilmington, where she was a dental assistant for 16 years.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Braidwood and Braidwood Recreation Club. In Cathy’s free time, she enjoyed cooking, fishing and baseball, but her greatest joy was her grandkids.

Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Richard; six children, Ricky (Cathy) Steele of Chicago, Mike (Kathy) Steele of Ohio, Jimmy (Kathy) Steele of Oak Lawn, Ill., Kelly (John) Blum of Bartlett, Ill., Cathy (Steve) Goris of Missouri, and Kimmy (Scott) O’Kane of North Riverside; 17 grandchildren, Hannah, Michael, Matt, Katy, James, Caitlin, Jack, Abbey, Tommy, Sean, Rachel, Kyle, Catherine, Sarah, Grace, Patrick and Maggie; two great-grandchildren, Wesley and Avery; one brother and three sisters, Judy (John) Christ and Mary Espinosa, both of Plainfield, Ill., Danny (Melody) Fountain of Warrenville, Ill., and Susie (Brent) Craig of Streamwood, Ill.; two sisters-in-law, Janet Steele of New Jersey, and Nancy Steele of Broadview, Ill.; and one brother-in-law, Bill (Lucy) Steele of Villa Park, Ill.

Cathy was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Patty Schultz; and one sister-in-law, Rosemary Jasutis.

Visitation and video tribute will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block north of Illinois 113) in Coal City. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 23, in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 110 South School St., Braidwood. The Rev. Show Reddy Allam will officiate.

Cathy’s grandsons will act as pallbearers. A private family inurnment will be in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery at a later date.
