At Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers, Shellie Moreno has a reputation for being an amazing co-worker who is always willing to step in and help others. That’s what makes her a huge asset to the Health Information Management (Medical Records) department and the primary reason why she was selected Morris Hospital’s Fire Starter of the Month for April.
A resident of Channahon, Moreno was working in the apartment housing industry prior to returning to school to obtain a degree in medical records. She immediately became intrigued with healthcare computer systems and accepted a position at Morris Hospital, where she keeps track of patient medical records and assists with the department computer systems, always with an eye on improving work flow.
Moreno’s co-workers say she wears many different hats and does it all with such ease and efficiency. Co-worker Jeanie Pierard said, “Shellie is always willing to help, day or night, whether she’s on the clock or off. She always follows up with any and all issues to make sure they have been corrected or resolved. I don’t think she knows how much we value her and appreciate her.”
Linda Petrick, acting manager for the department, says Moreno is always willing to go the extra mile.
“Shellie goes above and beyond every day,” Petrick said. “Besides being a valuable resource to her co-workers, she works well with physicians and other departments, and even in very stressful situations, she maintains a sense of humor and a smile.”
When asked what motivates her to achieve excellence, Moreno says she always wants to do better, and she is always ready to learn more. She also strives to put others before herself.
In early civilizations, fire starters were the individuals who had the important job of keeping the flame alive. As Fire Starter of the Month, Moreno received a Grundy County Chamber of Commerce gift certificate, a special “Fire Starter” lapel pin, and a designated parking spot for the month.
Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers is one of the largest employers in Grundy County with over 960 employees.
