MINOOKA — A Minooka man was arrested by Minooka police Thursday after he allegedly attempted to lure a 12-year-old into a car as a “prank.”

Douglas W. Sachtleben, 19, was charged with unlawful luring of a minor and booked into Grundy County jail.

Minooka police responded to a call of an attempted child abduction at 11:42 a.m. Thursday by Ridge Road and Misty Creek Drive.

An investigation determined that Sachtleben had attempted to lure the victim into a car he was riding in by asking if the 12-year-old wanted candy.

According to Minooka Police Chief Justin Meyer, the child ran home and told a family member, who called the police.

The police investigation determined the act was a prank, but the charge is the same as it would be if the attempt had been serious.

“The act or attempt is still unlawful luring,” Meyer said.

Meyer emphasized that it was an isolated incident and no threat to the community, though the child was frightened by the incident.

Sachtleben is being held at Grundy County jail.
