Fish fry at Eagles to benefit Habitat

Published: Thursday, June 20, 2013 8:51 a.m.CDT

Grundy-Three Rivers Habitat for Humanity invites the public to attend a fish fry at the Morris Eagles Club on Friday, June 21.

Habitat volunteers will staff the event, which runs from 5:30 to 8 p.m. and will include live music upstairs. Tips from the event will be matched up to $250 by the Eagles Club and will be used to fund Habitat house #10.

The home is currently under construction in Morris for the Rey Mercado family.

The menu includes a $10 combo dinner (fish and shrimp, fish and chicken strips, or shrimp and chicken strips) or a $9 dinner of fish, shrimp or chicken strips. Children’s portions are $7.

All meals come with choice of baked potato or fries, as well as cole slaw and bread.

Guests can dine-in or call (815) 942-0395 for carry out. Reservations are not required.

Habitat for Humanity constructs simple, decent homes for low-income, working families who are unable to qualify for a conventional home loan. “Partner families ”work alongside volunteers to build the home and must contribute 400 hours of “sweat equity” toward the project.

The homes are sold with a down payment and affordable no-interest mortgage.

Grundy-Three Rivers Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1996 as an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. The organization is governed and operated by a twelve-member board of volunteer directors.
