Michael E. Drown

WILMINGTON, Ill. — Mr. Michael E. Drown, 61, of Wilmington, Ill., passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at Morris Hospital.

Born June 16, 1952, in Joliet, Ill., Michael was a son of the late William Theodore and Edna Hazel Stainbrook-Drown. He was raised and educated in Wilmington and honorably served in the United States Army.

On Feb. 16, 1974, Michael married Arlene Derler in Wilmington, where together they raised their family. He will be remembered as a fan of both the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears, and loved his Corvette, as well as his dogs. Michael cherished his grandchildren and enjoyed attending all of their school activities and sports.

Survivors include his wife, Arlene; children James (Laurie) Drown of Monee, Ill., Kristle (Mike) Menozi of Morris, Ill., and Brandy (Michael) Wooters and Casey (Stacy) Drown, both of Wilmington, Ill.; 10 grandchildren, James Robert, Matthew, Tony, Marcus, Cade, Aiden, Cougar, Cole, Nina and Caius; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, William Drown of Wilmington and Robert Drown of Missouri; two sisters, Marie Barbour of Missouri and Debbie (Robert) Eatmon of Texas; and many friends, including his lifelong friends Lewie Wallace and Homer Meyers, who were with him until the end. Michael also leaves behind his beloved pets Joker and Missy.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Gloria Sharp.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 23, from 1 p.m. until the time of his Life Celebration at 3:30 p.m. in Freitag-Reeves & Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road, Wilmington. Inurnment will follow at 10 a.m. Monday, June 24, in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood. Those wishing to attend the cemetery honors are asked to assemble at the funeral home at 9 a.m. to process to the cemetery at 9:15 a.m.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Michael’s memory to his family for their distribution.
