Lillian A. Niehl

ELWOOD, Ill. — Mrs. Lillian A. "Tinker" Niehl, 89, of Elwood, Ill., passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2013, at Fairview Care Center in Joliet, Ill.

Born Oct. 30, 1923, in Moweaqua, Ill., Lillian was a daughter of the late August and Mabel Walters-Otta. On Dec. 3, 1943, she married Alan Niehl; he preceded her in death on Jan. 8, 2010.

Lillian enjoyed anything and everything to do with sewing, making quilts and making crafts. She was a member of the Jackson Unit Homemakers of Illinois for 60 years and was 4-H leader of the Elwood Rockettes for 15 years. Lillian sold Avon for 12 years and was in the Avon President’s Club for nine years.

She is survived by her loving family of two daughters, Janet King of Las Vegas, Nev., and Barbara (Ray) Enix of Elwood; three grandchildren, Sandy (Tom) Daniell of Las Vegas and Paul (Launa) Enix and Ranae (Marty) Loghry, both of Plainfield, Ill.; 11 great-grandchildren, Liberdy (Scott) McAllister, Gerald, Kyle and Blake Daniell, Jay, Molly, Tyler and Sara Enix, Jessica Gordon, and Megan and Kelly Loghry; one great-, great-grandchild, Daniell McAllister; one sister, Opal Shotton of Luka, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, August and Mabel Otta; and her husband, Alan L. Niehl.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 26, from 10:30 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 12:30 p.m. in Freitag-Reeves & Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road, Wilmington. Pastor Caleb Counterman will officiate and burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Lillian’s memory to Passages Hospice or Fairview Center in Joliet.
