Braidwood unit off line for maintenance work

Work on water pumps was planned

BRACEVILLE, Ill. – Braidwood Generating Station operators took Unit 2 offline early Friday morning to perform maintenance on a pair of water pumps. The work can only be performed while the unit is not operating.

“Monitoring of plant equipment is essential to reliable operations at Braidwood Generating Station,” said Dan Enright, Braidwood Station site vice president. “Our proactive approach to performing this maintenance will ensure that we can operate safely and reliably during the peak summer season ahead.”

Customers’ electrical service will not be affected as a result of the maintenance work. Braidwood station’s Unit 1 will continue to operate while the other unit is offline.

Braidwood Generating Station is approximately 60 miles southwest of Chicago. The station’s two nuclear energy units can produce a total of more than 2,300 megawatts at full power – enough electricity to power more than 2 million typical homes.

Exelon Corporation (NYSE: EXC) is the nation’s leading competitive energy provider, with 2012 revenues of approximately $23.5 billion. Headquartered in Chicago, Exelon has operations and business activities in 47 states, the District of Columbia and Canada.
