ONYX members remaining active

Networking event slated next week

OTTAWA — Nearly 40 people attended a family picnic sponsored by the Ottawa Network of Young eXecutives (ONYX) on Father’s Day weekend.

A new activity for the group, this event aimed to involve the spouses and/or children of members in a fun and safe setting. Hayrack rides, games, and a small petting zoo were among the activities provided.
ONYX was developed in partnership with the Ottawa Area Chamber of Commerce in 2009. The group exists to enable and encourage young professionals ages 22-40 to become the future “gems” of the community.

From entry-level to executive, ONYX allows members an opportunity to achieve personal and professional growth by providing a modern setting for social and business networking, community involvement, and cultural and career development.

Several upcoming events were recently announced.

• An informal networking event will take place on Wednesday, July 3, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Muffy’s Tap, 423 W. Madison Street, Ottawa.

The happening, called eXec Connect, is open to current ONYX members and their guests, and anyone interested in learning more about the group or applying for membership.

• The fifth annual “Dash for Ca$h” 5K run/walk will take place at 8 a.m. Saturday, July 20, at Ottawa River Rescue, 234 Albin Stevens Dr., Ottawa.

Proceeds from this event will help to fund a newly created scholarship program benefiting local high school students. Mail-in (paper) applications postmarked by Monday, July 8, require a $25 fee. Online registration is available through until Monday, July 8, and carries a $30 fee.

Custom-designed men’s and women’s technical shirts are guaranteed to runners and walkers who pre-register within this timeframe. Race day registration will also be available for $30 per person, though technical shirts will not be guaranteed to these participants.

Medals will be awarded to the overall male and female winners, as well as the first, second- and third-place male and female winners in each age division. Results will be posted online within 48 hours of the race at

Group/team registrations are available, and event volunteers and sponsors are needed.
