Marcella W. Sulzberger

DWIGHT, Ill. — Mrs. Marcella W. Sulzberger, 92, of Dwight, Ill., passed away Thursday evening, July 4, 2013, at Heritage Health, Dwight.

A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Dwight, with Father Chris Haake officiating. Rosary will be at 9:30 a.m., prior to the service. The church doors will open at 9 a.m. There will be no visitation.

Marcella was born Jan. 18, 1921, in Wenona, Ill., the daughter of Bernard and Matilda Jaegle Johnson. She married Lloyd L. Sulzberger on Dec. 18, 1941. He preceded her in death on July 17, 1986, after 44 years of marriage.

Surviving are her three daughters, Sandra (Roland) Gantzert of Dwight, Cleonne Wright of rural Ransom, Ill., and Monica Becker of Joliet, Ill.; two sons, Richard (Nancy) Sulzberger of Verona, Ill., and Michael Sulzberger of Normal, Ill. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, along with her brother, Cyril Johnson of Shorewood, Ill., and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; a sister in infancy; and a brother, Jerome Johnson.

Marcella was a graduate of Streator High School. She was a farmer’s wife in the Kinsman/Verona area before retiring to Dwight. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Dwight, and belonged to (and was past president of) the Catholic Daughter, the Altar and Rosary Society, and the Highland Homemakers Extension Unit.
