Women of Distinction

Awards program will honor role models who have made difference

It is no secret to the people of Grundy County that it holds some of the most community-minded individuals around.

“It is the nature of this community to take care of its neighbors and to support one another’s endeavors,” said Bob Wall, general manager for the Morris Daily Herald. “It is time that the women behind the drive of this community be recognized.”

The Morris Daily Herald and Minooka-Channahon Life are announcing the creation of the Women of Distinction Award, which will be given to three women who live and/or work in Grundy County and are considered role models in this community.

The awards will be given at an awards ceremony and luncheon presented by Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers in October. It is here that the recipients will have the opportunity to share their stories.

Other sponsors for the luncheon include major sponsor Greater Joliet Area YMCA, keynote sponsor Aurora University, and luncheon sponsor Country Financial Agent Terri Gilmoure. Other sponsorship opportunities are also available.

Diamond Mayor Teresa Kernc will be the special guest keynote speaker at the awards ceremony.

Who will receive the Women of Distinction honor will be up to the people of Grundy County, Wall said.

The Morris Daily Herald will begin taking nominations Wednesday, July 10, and will collect them through Aug. 15. Once all the nominations are collected, a special committee will decide on three recipients who will be announced before the October event.

The Women of Distinction Award is given to women who have made a difference in Grundy County and who are role models as leaders in their fields and communities.

She could be a member of your church, your child’s teacher, an exemplary board member, a not-for-profit leader, or a tireless volunteer.

“Grundy County is filled with women who lead by example from numerous fields and we look forward to giving them the credit they deserve,” Wall said.

To make a nomination, print the form at or by clicking on the Women of Distinction logo. Forms can also be picked up from the Morris Daily Herald office, 1804 N. Division St., Morris.

Forms need to be returned to the Morris Daily Herald with attention to Christina Chapman-Van Yperen.
