Joshua David Kerner

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Mr. Joshua David Kerner, 39, of Scottsdale, Ariz., died Sunday, July 7, 2013. Memorial services will be held in both Arizona and Michigan.

The Arizona Celebration of Life will be held at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, July 13, at Troon North Golf Club. This is intended to be a casual celebration of Josh’s life and motorcycles are encouraged.

Visitation will be held 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton, Mich. The Michigan Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 18, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 600 North Adelaide Street, Fenton, Mich.

Joshua was born Sept. 29, 1973, in Flint, Mich. He was a graduate of Linden High School and attended Great Lakes Community College and Ferdonia College (SUNY).  He played minor league hockey for nine years (Squirts through Midgets); two years in Canadian Jr. B; three years in Tier 2 Junior A, where they won a National Championship; and one year in D3 college.

Joshua went on to coach for Compu-ware Hockey — peewee minor; midget major; Tier2 Junior A, where they won a NAJH National Championship; and the Ontario Hockey League.

For the past 13 years, Joshua was employed on the corporate side of Compuware as a Manager of Strategic Accounts.

Joshua is survived by his wife, Ann Phillips Kerner (daughter of Barb and Rick Phillips, Gardner, Ill.); children Ryker Lane Kerner, age 4, and Kash Michael Kerner, age 1; his parents, Michael and Joan Kerner of Linden, Mich.; and his many, many friends who have become family through his passion for his family, hockey, Harleys and his career.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to an educational fund being established for Ryker and Kash Kerner. Contributions can be made to Ryker or Kash Kerner (c/o Ann Kerner), P.O. Box 2533, Carefree, Ariz., 85377-2533.
