John J. Kalec

BRAIDWOOD, Ill. — Mr. John J. Kalec, 90, of Braidwood, Ill., passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, Ill.

Born June 25, 1923, in Braidwood to the late Mathew and Caroline (Laski) Kalec, John graduated from Reed-Custer High School with the Class of 1942. He Retired from Caterpillar in 1982 after 30 years of employment.

A member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Braidwood and the Braidwood Recreation Club, John helped organize the Neighborhood Watch Program and he was known for creating the Comet logo for the Reed-Custer School District. He enjoyed his 30 years of retirement by taking great pride in his home and gardens.

Surviving are his wife, Evelyn (Ryszewski) Kalec of Braidwood, whom he married Aug. 16, 1947, at the Immaculate Conception Church. He is also survived by his children, John (Karen) Kalec of Knoxville, Tenn., and Roxann (Chuck) Kuchar of Custer Park, Ill.; six grandchildren, John Jr., Daniel, David, and Katherine Kalec, Richard (Katie) Kuchar, and Phillip (Erin) Kuchar; six great-grandchildren, Channing Kalec, and Ryan, Michael, Jayne, Henry, and Rydia Kuchar; a brother-in-law, Richard Ryszewski of Braidwood; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Preceding him in death were his six siblings, Sally Muzik, William Kalec, Sophie Kopera, Jean Freckelton, Victoria Wills, and Mary McHugh.

Private family funeral services will be held. R.W. Patterson Funeral Homes, Ltd. & Crematory, Braidwood Chapel, is entrusted with the arrangements. Interment will be in Bohemian National Cemetery in Braidwood.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his name to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.
