David Lee Matlock

LAKELAND, Fla. — Mr. David Lee Matlock, 64, of Lakeland, Fla., and formerly of Chadds Ford, Pa; St. Louis, Mo; and Wilmington, Ill. passed away Friday, July 12, 2013, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. Born Feb. 24, 1949, in Orleans Parish, New Orleans, La., Dave is a son of Elnora Imogene (Warner) Anderson and the late Lee Matlock. He was a graduate of Wilmington High School with the Class of 1967, and DeVry Institute of Technology in 1970.

Dave’s career began with Clennon Electric in Wilmington and evolved with him holding employment over the years with Ecolab in Joliet, JS Alberici Construction in St. Louis, and Fox Realty and Rubenstein Partners in Philadelphia — from where he retired three years ago.

Dave was a member of the AF&AM, IBEW Local #176 in Joliet, and Saint John’s United Church of Christ in Foristell, Mo. He was an avid wine collector and enjoyed fishing, hunting and golf, as well as loved to travel.

Dave cherished the time spent with his family and friends. He also loved every minute he could spend with his grandchildren and enjoyed attending their sporting events.

Survivors include his loving wife of 31 years, the former Marilyn Wright, whom he married on Sept. 26, 1981; four children, Michelle (Ronald Jr.) Conner-Rector of Wentzville, Mo., Brian Matlock (Tyra Berning) of Wilmington, Ill., Aaron Matlock of Arlington Heights, Ill., and Valerie Conner-Rogers of Breese, Ill.; his mother, Elnora Imogene Anderson; mother-in-law Frances Marie Wright; 10 grandchildren, Lauren (Shawn) Rector-Butler, Bradley Rector, Kyle Villarreal, Conor Burton, Brady Villarreal, Steven Matlock, Anthony Villarreal, Brandi Rector, Riley Matlock and Maximus Rogers; one great-granddaughter, Callie Butler; and three brothers, Michael (Jane) Matlock of Wilmington, Randy (Connie) Matlock of Pawnee, Ill., and John (Tracey) Anderson of Morrison, Ill.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dave was preceded in death by his grandparents, Roy and Ruth Matlock and Elmer and Ethel Warner; his father, Lee Matlock; step-father John Anderson; father-in-law Glenn Wright; and grandson Cameron Matlock.

Cremation rites have been accorded and a memorial visitation with video tribute will be held on Monday, July 22, from 3 p.m. until the time of the Life Celebration at 7 p.m. in Freitag-Reeves & Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road, Wilmington.

The family will then again receive friends Tuesday, July 23, at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 60 St. Johannes Lane, in Foristell, Mo., from 2 p.m. until the time of Christian burial at 4 p.m. The Rev. Devin Jones will officiate.

Preferred memorials in lieu of flowers may be made as gifts in Dave’s memory to St. John’s United Church of Christ, 60 St. Johannes Lane, Foristell, Mo., 63348.
