Fleta M. Styner

ROANOKE, Ill. — Mrs. Fleta M. Styner, 81, of Roanoke, Ill., and formerly of Morris, Ill., passed away at 4:17 pm on Sunday, July 21, 2013, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Ill.

Born June 3, 1932, in Carthage, Mo., a daughter of Ben and Marie Gallup Hodson, Fleta married Richard E. Styner on Dec. 30, 1947, in Bentonville, Ark. He survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Michaleen (Marvin) Braker of Roanoke; one son, Richard J. Styner of Morris; four grandchildren, Kevin (Janice) Braker, Karel (Nate) Hoffman, Jeremy (Ashley) Styner, and Michelle (Mike) Murphy; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Johney Newlen; one son, John Merrit Styner; two brothers; and three sisters.

Fleta retired from Western Electric in Montgomery, Ill., in 1989.

She was a former member of Sweet Adelines International, Red Hat Society, and the Peoria Park District Senior Tap Dancers. Fleta and Richard enjoyed going to shows at Conklin’s Dinner Theater with their dinner group.

She enjoyed spending time everyday in her sewing room, where she would make blankets, quilts and gifts for others.

An adventurous lady, she enjoyed traveling and doing activities, such as white water rafting and hiking.

Family and friends came first with Fleta. She especially enjoyed spending time playing games with her family. She was not only grandma to her grandchildren, but became “grandma” to everyone she met.

Fleta was a member of the First Baptist Church of Minonk, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 25, 2013. The Rev. Richard Olson will officiate.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, at the Knapp-Johnson-Harris Funeral Home in Roanoke, and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. at the church on Thursday.  Burial will be in the Roanoke Township Cemetery.
