Local library offers guided tour of Chicago art museum

Do you love art but don’t feel like dealing with the stress of driving to Chicago?

The Morris Area Public Library is sponsoring a bus trip Saturday, Sept. 21 to the Art Institute of Chicago.

As one of the country’s largest art museums, the Art Institute of Chicago is a must-see for anyone interested in art.

From their world-renowned French Impressionist collection to American art favorites like Grant Wood’s American Gothic and from ancient treasures hailing from across the globe to modern masterpieces by Dali, Matisse and Picasso, the museum has something for everyone.

The price for adults to attend this bus trip is $57 and the price for seniors (65+) is $51.

The price includes ticket, lunch, guided tour and transportation.

Lunch choices include: turkey and Swiss cheese on baguette, natural cured ham and brie cheese on rye bread, chicken salad on a croissant, grilled vegetables and fresh mozzarella on ciabatta bread, or roast beef and cheddar cheese on wheat bread.

Please arrive at the library by 8:45 a.m. as the bus leaves at 9 a.m. The bus will be leaving Chicago at 3 p.m.

Please inform library staff of lunch choice at time of sign-up.

Theater-style presentation to put spotlight on Belle Boyd

Janet Gilleland from Accent on History will use a theater-styled presentation at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29 to engage the audience and bring Belle Boyd to life at Morris Area Public Library.

Belle Boyd declared her allegiance to the Confederacy early in the Civil War even though she lived in a Union stronghold.

By delivering information across enemy lines, she was instrumental in changing the outcome of some early Civil War battles.

She was captured, spent time in jail (more than once) and went on to write her memoirs.

Later in life, she became an actress and traveled throughout England and the United States. She died while on a speaking tour of the Midwest and she is buried in Wisconsin.

This program is free and open to the public.

For more information, call (815) 942-6880 to register or stop in to the Morris Area Public Library.
