Lois L. Pope

GARDNER, Ill. — Mrs. Lois L. (Burke) Pope, 84, of Gardner, Ill., passed away peacefully, Tuesday, July 23, 2013, with her family by her side at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home in Joliet, Ill.

Lois was the seventh child of Leo and Susan (Bumgardner) Burke. Born Oct. 21, 1928, in Lexington, Ill., she was educated in Chenoa schools. On July 4, 1948, she married Donald Pope of Braceville, Ill.

Lois was in the beauty business for 30 years in Braceville, where her shop was located. She lived in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., for 25 years and worked at the Hilton Hotel in Dania, Fla., for 14 years. She then moved on April 28, 2010, to Gardner, where she was an elder of the Church of Hope in Gardner.

Surviving are her son, Danny (Dolores) Pope of Gardner; two grandchildren, Barbara (Kent) Pope-Pelligrini of Morris, Ill., and Brian (Laurie) Pope of Coal City, Ill.; five great-grandchildren, Tori, Sophia, Roman, and Gianna Pelligrini, and Gabriella Pope; two sisters, Ada Raby of Chenoa and Ida Schopp of Gardner; one brother, Howard “Pete” (Emmy) Burke of Creve Coeur, Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are four sisters, Ethel, Marge, Wanda, and Mary Ann; and two brothers, Harold and Cleo Burke.

Private family funeral services will be held. R.W. Patterson Funeral Homes Ltd. & Crematory, Braidwood Chapel, 401 E. Main St., Braidwood, is entrusted with the arrangements. Cremation rites will be accorded. Inurnment will be in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery, Braceville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her name to the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home in Joliet or the Church of Hope in Gardner would be appreciated.
