Akzo Nobel employees Deidre Hicks, center, and Tina Weir, right, deliver donated school supplies to We Care of Grundy County’s Lori Sandgren.

Akzo Nobel and Jacobs Engineering conducted a school supply drive and together donated 30 large backpacks and additional school supplies totaling over $300, for a combined total of over $800 in donations.

Akzo Nobel employees Deidre Hicks and Tina Weir delivered the donation to We Care of Grundy County’s Lori Sandgren last month.

Some of the school supplies were distributed to low-income families at the annual Back to School Fair held Saturday, July 27. The remainder will be distributed from We Care’s office.

It’s not too late to help. If you would like to donate school supplies, please drop them off at the We Care office, 520 W. Illinois Ave., in CanalPort Community Cetner, Morris. Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Through these combined efforts, every child in Grundy County will have the opportunity to start the school year off feeling well-equipped and ready to meet the challenges ahead.

We Care is a local nonprofit agency that provides emergency assistance to Grundy County residents in the form of food, rent, utility and prescription assistance.

We Care is a United Way partner agency and is funded primarily by private donations.
