The 3 French Hens French Country Market set for Saturday, Aug 10, is shaping up to be even better then those of previous months.
The Hens are excited there will be plenty of fresh produce, including Maierhofer farms sweet corn, fresh herbs from Creekside Natural Farms, and an abundance of vine-ripened tomatoes. As the season goes, the gardens grow.
This market, there will be new vendors joining old favorites, with more artisans and antiques lining up to sell. Primitives and industrial goods will be a nice addition to what has typically been a shabby chic crowd. A vintage fabric vendor will be joining in, with barkcloths, trims, buttons, and more for those who like to create their own designs.
Always a hit with shoppers, and tying in with the Cruise Night festivities held later in downtown Morris, the antique Good Humor truck will be set-up on the east brick parking lot. Dave Durocher, the Good Humor ice cream man, has been delighting kids young, and young at heart, with this traveling bit of nostalgia. Kids should be sure to ask Dave to ring the bell.
As always, there are plenty of good things to eat along the I & M canal, including Grundy County’s famous Pam’s Corn Dogs, brats and pork chops, kettle corn, sweets, and, just added...Diana’s Tacos, chips and salsas.
There is plenty of shade and ample seating to enjoy a quick bite, with musicians often volunteering to play throughout the venue.
Several non-profit organizations will be set-up for the Market, including the Brooks family and their Alex’s Lemonade Stand, raising awareness and funds to fight pediatric cancer. When you purchase their lemonade, you are joining in their fight.
Meals on Wheels will be selling 50-50 raffle tickets, and if you miss them along the Canal, tickets will also be sold during Cruise Night.
The Hens would like to remind all to bring a small cooler for their car in which to store perishables since they know you will want to stroll through downtown Morris, visiting the numerous shops, pubs, and restaurants after shopping the Market.
With Cruise Night kicking into gear around 5 p.m., you will be tempted to stay and stroll the streets filled with up to 1,000 vintage and classic vehicles. That is a true trip down memory lane.
3 French Hens French Country Markets run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. the second Saturday of the month, May through October. The are held along the banks of the historic Illinois & Michigan Canal on W. Washington Street in Morris.
